Certified industrial foreman
This training is offered by the ZDS for two specializations:
- Certified industrial foreman, specialization: Food (abbreviation: IM-L)
- Certified industrial foreman, specialization: confectionery (abbreviation: IM-S)
The “Certified Industrial Foreman” works as an interface manager for various areas. Special emphasis is placed on:
- Organization of results-oriented work
- Working on topics in groups
- Team-oriented thinking and acting
- Motivation of employees
According to the ordinance , the following examination parts must be completed for the advanced training qualification as an industrial master craftsman specializing in confectionery and food technology:
I. Cross-discipline basic qualification
II. Occupation-specific qualification
III. Vocational and occupational education qualification (AEVO)
Parts I and III for the advanced training qualification are to be completed at the participant’s own responsibility at the respective home location.
The ZDS prepares for Part II (action-specific qualification) with a preparatory course.
Examination part I
a) Admission requirements
- Successful completion of the final examination in the recognized training occupation “confectionery technologist” or “food technology specialist” or
- Successful completion of a final examination or journeyman’s examination in a recognized training occupation that is assigned to the nutritional professions and subsequent professional experience of at least six months or
- Successful completion of a final examination or journeyman’s examination in another recognized training occupation and subsequent professional experience of at least one year or at least four years of professional experience
b) Focus of content:
The “Interdisciplinary basic qualification” comprises 400
teaching hours. It is divided into the following main areas:
- Acting with legal awareness
- Business management
- Applying methods of information, communication and planning
- Cooperation in the company
- Consideration of scientific and technical principles.
The examination for Part I must be taken at the home Chamber of Industry and Commerce before the examination for Part II can be taken. The lessons for the interdisciplinary basic qualification can be completed together with other preparatory courses for the industrial master craftsman. Central examination dates take place twice a year. The following preparatory courses to become a certified industrial foreman contain the same basic qualification:
- Mechatronics
- Electrical engineering
- Metal
- Plastic and rubber
- Glass
- Rail traffic
- Aeronautical engineering
Examination part II
The lessons held at the ZDS prepare students exclusively for Examination Part II, “Qualification for specific occupations”.

Proof of completion (no more than five years ago) of examination part I “Cross-discipline basic qualification”

Duration and dates
The preparatory course for examination part II is conducted in the form of classroom instruction (590 hours) in 4 modules with 3-4 weeks of full-time instruction (a total of 15 weeks plus examination) at the ZDS. 120 hours must be completed as e-learning modules.

Costs
The current course costs include participation fee, accommodation and meals (full board). The course can only be booked as a complete package (participation fee, accommodation and meals).
The costs break down as follows:
- Course fee: 5344 € (1336 €/ module)
- Teaching material: 150 €
Optional: - Double room 1: 35 € p.p. /night
- Single room 1: 59 € p.p. / night
- Single room 2: 50 € p.p./night
- Meals: 166,80 €/ week
